What is a great restaurant/hotel for a wedding dinner in Berkshire?

Any place you can recommend for a wedding dinner? It will be a small intimate group of people of about 8 people so it would not be possible to hire a full venue. Any tips appreciated.

What is a great restaurant/hotel for a wedding dinner in Berkshire?
ANYWHERE around Windsor?

or what part of Berks do you want it in?
Reply:The Fat Duck in Bray. Although you may only be able to book for a table of 6 max, not totally sure. It is somewhat expansive, but will obviously be a memorable meal.
Reply:The Swan at Streatley - lovely venue and good food. Pretty village too.

How much does a wedding planner make in Las Vegas?

I am going to be a certified wedding planner. I am thinking about moving out to Las Vegas for a year or so to gain experience since there are so many weddings out there. What is the average income for a wedding planner in Vegas?

How much does a wedding planner make in Las Vegas?
im assuming that a wedding planner in a hotel would be on a salary like the rest of the employees. The hotels in Vegas do pay decent. I would assume maybe 85G a year.
Reply:When people get married in Las Vegas they dont spend alot of money. Thats why they go to those little knock off chapels along the road. Move to California. Theres good money.

How can I transfer raw footage of a wedding from a DVD to my computer for editing?

I have a friend who has the raw footage of his wedding in MiniDV's and the other part is raw footage too but in a DVD or disc, not sure. My question is how can I transfer the DVD content into my computer for editing? . I am planning to do it iMovie06. Any suggestions?

How can I transfer raw footage of a wedding from a DVD to my computer for editing?
Firewire for the footage on miniDV tape.

If the other footage is on a DVD, just do a rip of the files to your hard drive.
Reply:Not sure what formats that iMovie takes. However, DVD is MPEG-2 and its not the best format for editing. Typically, you should convert the MPEG-2 files from the DVD to a DV-AVI format and then go ahead.

Thanks.

What is the best way to sell a wedding band and engagement ring?

I have a wedding band and engagement ring that I want to sell. They are both 14k gold, and I don't really know anything about the diamond in the engagement ring. I also have another 14k gold ring that the stone fell out of that I would like to sell. What is the best way to sell these rings?

What is the best way to sell a wedding band and engagement ring?
If you want to sell some gold that youre no longer wearing any more you can sell it directly to a refiner. You have the option of shopping it around but that takes a lot of work.

Use this calculator to see how much you can get for it

http://www.goldintomoney.com/calculator
Reply:the dow has raised 16% int the last 2 months gold on the other hand has raised 23% our country is in recession and the further our economy will go down the more your gold will be worth so pay great attention to the gold market and see it keep rising it makes a difference to second hand jewelwers seriously
Reply:First get it appraised, then you can sell it on EBAY or Craigslist.com.

How much should i change to photograph a wedding?

I have been shooting for about 6 or 7 years. I currently use a d200 nikon digital slr. The person that has asked me to shoot for her only wanted the wedding shot. I am used to shooting on a per hour basis.

Should I charge on a per hour or a total fee? or a per hour and per photo? help!

How much should i change to photograph a wedding?
i am a professional photographer, and primarily shoot weddings. the first year or two, i charged a minimum of $100 an hour, however i learned that sometimes i would get all my shots within an hour or two, and it ended up not being worth the driving, arranging schedule, etc for $200. Charging by job allows you to take care of everything for a certain price, which is simpler for you and your client.
Reply:I'm a wedding photographer for more than 14 years. I charge in different ways. In my experience it's difficult to charge hourly basis on a wedding function. Some times it will take 2 hours to 8 hours or more for a function depending on the family, caste or religion.

If they want the full function album, you can design and print them and make a beautiful album for them. You can charge per photographs or per pages of the album.

The other way is take the shoot and give the CD of the snaps, they will make album or what ever it may be.You can charge per snaps you shot.

Or you may shoot, make prints in particular size and give it to them and charge per prints.

What ever it may be, you just calculate your expense and work load.Calculate and compair if it was a hourly basis. Then you give a minimum charge/minimum snaps for your work and the charge per snaps you desided to take.

Make sure that you should have an experience in shoot wedding. You must know the sequences which is going to be happen next moment, you should have an over all idea of a wedding function what will go on next...You should have an awareness it is not a photo session, it is wedding function.Photography is secondary thing here.

If you are confident, nothing matters; go on with that
Reply:Usually it's a flat fee for the session that varies based on what they want. If you cover the total wedding you usually get fed, BUT remember if it's FORMAL you have to wear a TUX.

Then you charge them for the prints separately after you give them the proofs.

Make sure they know they have to get the prints from you and not Kodak scan them off the proofs OR charge a higher fee and let them make their own prints from a disk you provide.

As for waht photographers charge it varies widely. Why not call a few and ask them so you don't under price or over price.
Reply:Only you can figure out what your time is worth and what the market will stand ($100 an hour is not unreasonable for something like this) but make sure you also take into account the time spent post processing. I spend much longer after the wedding than I do at the wedding, and often times, people can't comprehend the amount of work that goes on once the event is over. I think it is for this reason, I would quote a fixed fee for the entire event that takes into account how much time you will spend shooting the wedding and doing the post-processing. Also keep in mind that doing formals is much different than shooting the reception. Different skills, different equipment and different challenges. Please make sure you know what you are doing. Shooting a wedding is a big deal and there are no second chances if you mess something up.
Reply:I think I agree with Laura on this one!
Reply:I agree with Laura, price it by the event. I don't shoot weddings but I listen to a lot of podcasts put on by pro wedding shooters and they all price it by event. Check out www.simplephotolife.com. This is a website that features a lot of top wedding shooters.

How much does a wedding planner charge/make?

I'm considering pursuing a career in wedding planning, but I wouldn't be in a huge city. Do they charge a pecentage of the wedding cost? How many weddings do they do per year?

How much does a wedding planner charge/make?
2000 to 10000 and up.

It will take time to develop a name for your self so best to charge low it first. If you are good word will spread.

(it's a lot of headache!)
Reply:A wedding planner either charges a percentage of the entire wedding, or a flat fee. Said flat fee is NOT separate from the budget, as the wedding planner's job is to save the couple money. The weddings they do per year varies, as weddings are "seasonal."

Blessed Be!

How do you eat one year old frozen wedding cake?

I got married one year ago this 12/10. We saved the top of the wedding cake and its been in the freezer for 363 days as of this writing. Its been wrapped in plastic wrap and tin foil the whole time. Someone suggested taking it out the day before and letting it thaw on the counter for 24 hours. Anyone know? Thanks!

How do you eat one year old frozen wedding cake?
Oh I like this!!! I have a rather funny story from mine...but won't go into the long winded detail here. I suggest defrosting in the frig for at least 24 hours. Feed each other one bite...........then you have fun with the frosting.......no clothes necessary....I'm sure you get my drift! Have fun and HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!
Reply:What???????????

Don't eat it!!!!!

What are you thinkinh about?
Reply:thaw in the frig or cut a slice and put it in the micro for a few seconds.
Reply:Thaw it and use a fork. It's fine really- I am a Chef at a banquet facility and brides do it all the time- some kind of tradition. I just hope it was wrapped well because freezer burn tastes pretty bad ; )
Reply:you don't!!!!!!
Reply:I'm not sure but congrats on lasting a year!
Reply:If you really wanted to eat it, I would thaw it in the fridge and just share a tiny fork full if you want to do the "tradition".

Personally, I'd call the baker who did the cake and order a small one layer cake. Some high end bakers do this routinely for "sample cakes" for prospective customers. Surprise your sweetie with that instead. You'll enjoy it more.
Reply:No; please thaw it in the fridge, otherwise it thaws too quickly and the icing can become runny.
Reply:yep thaw it out
Reply:Take my aadvice and don't worry about it. No matter how you defrost it the cake is already freezer burnt. You don't wanna eat a whole lot it. Just take anibble and then pitch the rest. Learn from my mistake and don't stuff a big gob in your mouth. You will regret it
Reply:Just take it out and let thaw for 24 hours like your friend suggested. We did that with ours and amazingly enough it was still good! Yummy!

Recipies on candies or truffles for aqua & brown wedding?

I'm planning on giving away boxes filled with chcolates as gifts for my wedding. I would like to make them myself. I found some exquisite boxes for them.

I have ideas to add some brownies but I need recipies for truffles and the like.

Do you have bright ideas on candies how to incorporate the colors into them?

Recipies on candies or truffles for aqua %26amp; brown wedding?
For your aqua, you might try making some mints. Here is a great recipe that is a standard from a long time ago. I like the suggestion one person had of dipping them in chocolate - there are your two colors!

Best wishes for your upcoming wedding! Hope it is a dream come true for you both!

Oh, and another thought might be to contact M%26amp;Ms - they make special colored candies and they might have aqua and your brown ... that would be fun! :)
Reply:i would make a simple fudge cut in small squares dipped in melted chocolate then drizzle on top zig zag with the color you want

16 oz bag semi sweet chocolate chip

14 oz can of sweetened condensed milk

nuts optional

melt chocolate then stir in the milk. This hardens real fast so be prepared to mix in the nut.

for you colors they have candy melts, or use white chocolate and buy food coloring paste (sold at walmart in the craft isle or craft stores with cake decorating supplies)

make chocolate caramel turtles

almond as the legs and drizzle caramel on top allow to cool the drizzle chocolate on top

for the caramel use the ones in the isle where they have the chocolate chip
Reply:Colored chocolate candies

Truffles

Reply:I would suggest just finding a really simple truffle recipe that has a solid chocolate coating in place of a dusted one.

You could then melt some white chocolate with blue food coloring and drizzle it over the truffles.

This is a good recipe if you are up to it:

Does one absolutely have to start a business to become a wedding planner(unexperieced)?

Or are there companies that hire entry-level wedding planners? Or even wedding planning assistants to move up?

Does one absolutely have to start a business to become a wedding planner(unexperieced)?
Here's the thing. Most wedding planners are just one or two people companies. They are the business, themselves. There may some true "companies" that are larger that do this in some of the bigger cities, but not in most cases.

I have been in the business for 17 yrs. In my area, brides hiring a wedding planner/coordinator has just really taken off in the past 5-6 yrs. I have been a lot busier and therefore just now needed an assistant. I have hired one who is learning as she goes, in the hopes that one day she can take on some of the weddings on her own.

I would advise you to start slowly. See if you can get a part time job at a bridal shop. This will really give you a clue into the drama and emotion that is involved in the wedding planning process %26amp; whether or not you will be able to handle the brides (and their moms). Work there for awhile. If you are not turned off by the mundane parts of the business, then try to find a reputable planner in your area to do an apprenticeship with. Work your way up to assistant, and then on to your own.

I do not recommend anyone just getting certified online %26amp; immediately opening a business. If you did this, you would probably be out of business in 6 mos. Brides care about actual hands on experience more than a certificate %26amp; a store front.
Reply:Get the names of Wedding Planners from synagogues, churches, hotels or any places that have weddings. Check out the Internet. Tell them you are looking for a job as an apprentice to a Wedding Planner. The movie "The Wedding Planner" is a romantic comedy, but the job is a lot of work, a lot of fire fighting, and some psychotherapy as well. Hours are awful, traveling is moderate, and work conditions are not bad.
Reply:If you can't even spell "inexperienced", I would worry about your skills at being a wedding planner. You might call up a few places and ask to "intern" with them (i.e. work for free for the training) Expect to work 18 hour days, run your feet off and be yelled at. The job is not all about setting tables and selecting flowers. good luck.
Reply:A good place to start is in a Church actually. Find a big busy church that does a lot of weddings and ask if you can be the coordinators assistant. This is a volunteer position but it does get you an up close and personal experience working on the day of biggest stress to see if you actually like it. I did that then ended up the actual coordinator for 2 years, then decided I LOVED it , took a course and viola a wedding planner I became! The hard part is marketing yourself! I just moved and have to start all over in a new town getting to know the good spots and vendors. Other than that, it is a fun but stressful business! Just pray you don't come up against too many Bridezillas!! :)

best wishes......................
Reply:I've looked around there are courses you can take in different cities.

I'm sure there are companies in big cities such as NYC and LA, you'd have to look in your local area to see if they have any. A good bet is to go and find a wedding planner in the newspaper that advertises and see if you can be her assistant. Or you could go to a big hotel that does weddings and see if you can work some of the weddings with the event planner.

I know there are a few things online that can send you a lot of information however I don't know much about them. My friend and I were in talks about starting a wedding planner business but we are far too busy lol.
Reply:YOU SHOULD HAVE SOME PARTY PLANNER BACKGROUND. WEDDING PLANNERS DO MORE THAN JUST PUT A WEDDING TOGETHER. YOU HAVE TO BE THERE FOR THE BRIDE HER FAMILY, THE GROOM HIS FAMILY THE VENDORS THE VENUE AND MAKE SURE THAT THE WEDDING COMES OFF WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS. ALSO YOU MUST HAVE CONTACTS WITH LOCAL VENDORS. TRY DOING A FEW FOR FREE AND SEE IF YOU LIKE IT AND REMEMBER IT'S NOT YOUR WEDDING, BUT YOU HAVE TO TREAT IT HAS IT WAS.
Reply:It would be a good idea to gain experience of organising functions, you can do this by working in a hotel or function venue. Be prepared for hard work and long hours!
Reply:Wedding planning is more of an intimate thing so I would think there arent too many big companies doing it, but theres no harm in asking if anyone needs assistants.

I would tend to think you could start with friends, extended family, friends of friends etc, just to get you started.

But there is an advantage in starting a business in that you can advertise and get your name out there. You also seam more professional and reliable. Remember, Brides are very fussy so you want to be a serious and professional as you can be.
Reply:Everybody has to start somewhere....

Call some of the local florist shops and see what they do....
Reply:I know if I hired a wedding planner I would not want one who is inexperienced.

How should i do my hair for a wedding?

I am a bridesmaid for a wedding that is coming up, and i still do not know what type of hairstyle should i do. My hair is a little pass my shoulders and i am looking for a hairstyle tha lets my hair down not an updo.

How should i do my hair for a wedding?
i would suggest some loose curls. maybe even add some highlights!
Reply:One of these styles with a few small pieces of baby's breath or rhinestone hair accent pins I think would be beautiful.

Reply:How about half up half down with masses of curls going around your shoulders..

use hot rollers and don't brush through the curls just run you fingers through it and secure the up part with a pretty clip or flower....... try to look fresh and don't even try to look better than the bride.......

it's her day! Just feel beautiful .....and feminine..................:)
Reply:Personally updos look much more sophisticated, but here is a website that has all sorts of pictures for styles:

Good luck to you!
Reply:Be careful that you don't upstage the bride. Maybe you should take your cues from her. I wouldn't go for an completely different hairstyle (different cut, color) because of the upstage effect.

You can you can also talk to the other bridesmaids for ideas and everyone follows a similar style (elegent up-do, soft curls, twists, braids, etc...)

What type of dress should I wear to a fall, evening wedding?

I am going to a wedding in October that will be at 6:30 in the evening. I would like to know what type of dress would be best. I don't want to be too formal but I don't want to be under dressed either. The groom just tells me whatever is fine but I know better than to follow that advice. The wedding is inside at a hotel/resort type place.

What type of dress should I wear to a fall, evening wedding?
I think that since it's in the Fall the temperature is too tricky. I would go with a nice sleeveless dress but have a wrap in case it gets chilly. (I'm assuming that you'll be in a car to and back from there.) You can ask several other ladies that may be at the wedding and then you can get a feel of what everyone else is wearing. That's always a good way to find out. Well, I hope that you pick something just fine and have fun at the wedding. Best wishes and take care.
Reply:I would most definately recommend a uni-(dark) colored long sleeve dress, maybe navy, and knee/full-length. Black mesh pantyhose for warmth or ankle-reaching leggings, the thicker-than-mesh ones though in this case. Black low-heeled pumps for shoes. Or, same kind of dress but sleeveless with a deep crimson (or any colors that go together) turtleneck sweater on top.

Hope this helped, good luck and fun! =)
Reply:definitely a dress (not too short), with shoes that cover your toes. sleeveless dress is okay, but i'd recomend a shawl or a sweater ofr warmth/cover up (at least till dancing at the reception). have fun!

What would be a good choice for casual wedding atire for the groom?

We are having a VERY casual wedding and I, the bride, will be wearing a white cotton ilot dress and was wanting some help for what the groom should wear. How about a white shirt with kaikis? Please help! Thanks!

What would be a good choice for casual wedding atire for the groom?
Where will the wedding be? If you're marrying in the country outside, he could even wear jeans.

I would suggest that the groom wear khakis and either a white polo or a button down shirt like one of the following:

http://msnbcmedia3.msn.com/j/msnbc/Secti...

http://www.expressfashion.com/products/i...
Reply:I think the white shirt and khakis works. Maybe a polo shirt would be better though.

It should make it easy for him, and he might not even have to shop.
Reply:I'd say either a white dress shirt or polo, and kaikis. :)

Congrats.

How much does a wedding photographer charge for a beginning assignment?

i am thinking of getting into wedding photoghaphy. i shoot film because i love it. i have medium format as well 35mm. how much can a photographer charge with no experience in wedding photography.

How much does a wedding photographer charge for a beginning assignment?
I think you are going about this the wrong way. OK, so you shoot film because you "love it". But what is it going to cost you to buy the film, get it processed, get prints (proofs made) and deliver finished prints? What are your travel expenses? Will you need an assistant? How long will you shoot for for your fee? 2 hours, 4 hours....from the time she wakes up in the morning until the happy couple leaves the reception?

Before you do anything you need to know what is your cost of doing business! $500 may sound like a lot of money but if it costs you $325 for film, travel, processing, proofs and prints and 5 hours of shooting time plus a few more hours coordinating the proofs and then a few more hours finding the negs and ordering the final prints and delivering to the bride you're working near minimum wage. (And that doesn't even cover the cost of reprints because she doesn't like the strand of hair that is across her forehead in the bride's portrait.)

I would also agree with a previous answer...see if you can assist on a wedding with a professional photographer and see if you even want to get into the business. There are a lot of skills required beyond photography. Dealing with "difficult" people, technical lighting issues, and just the physical demands of the job could make you change your mind.

Wedding photography is a business and it has to be treated that way. You are there to capture moments. You are constantly searching for "the little things" that make each wedding unique. What worked last weekend won't work now because you are in a different church, with a different bride, at a different time of day.

That said, no one can tell you what to charge. You have determine what your costs will be and what amount of profit for your work you're willing to work for. Since you have no experience I would look at a a bride "taking a significant chance" on you as a reason for her to ask for a deep discount on your services. Make sure that you spell out exactly what she will receive for your fee. The number of hours of coverage must be defined. Will there be a minimum number of prints? What shots "must" be made? Get 1/2 of your fee to book the date. (this is non-refundable) I would suggest getting 1/4 two weeks before the wedding and the final 1/4 on delivery of the prints.

Good luck if you choose to go this route. There is money to be made but it isn't any easy business.
Reply:If you are doing it "because you love it" and have no experience, I personally would Never hire you for my wedding as the primary photographer.

I have been shooting weddings for about 10 years, it is tough and a lot of work. It can be really stressfull and a royal PITA!! I would reccomend shooting as an assistant for a while then branch off on your own. I have heard of people messing up weddings and being sued by the couple because you can Not repeat that day and there was no photos. The couple was awarded over $3000 for damages.

Seriously think about this and make sure you know what you are doing Before attempting to shoot a wedding!!
Reply:I would not charge at all until you have several weddings under your belt that you can make samples from to show people you will later be charging. How are they supposed to know how well you will do for them when you don't have samples? Also, please find a photographer who is willing to show you the ropes at a wedding or two, there is much more to it than most people think. You have to know where to be when and ready. I have photographed at least 200 weddings, and I shudder to think how much I could have messed up if I hadn't been taught by another photographer.
Reply:depending on the size of the wedding. if it's a small wedding, i'd charge approximately $500. if it's a real large wedding, i'd charge approximately $2,000. if it's an inbetween sized wedding, then i'd charge somewhere between those two figures. then the more experience you get, you can adjust your prices accordingly.
Reply:Don't charge over $2000 if you are new. i paid over $5000 for a realy high quality wedding album and the photographer had an assistant. I interviewed 3. The cheapest was $2000 and he did not provide a wedding album. You should start off as an assistant or doing other social settings since a wedding is a huge deal and couples get really crabby over wedding stuff.
Reply:I would think $500-$1000...but I'm not sure if someone would want to hire someone with no experience... if anything...show them your work and ask them if they have shopped around...

What are some good wedding decoration ideas that will stand out?

My fiance and I are getting married July 26, 2008 and we have most of the planning organized.. My aunt is a wedding coordinator with her own business.. but we are just looking for one kind of decorative thing to stand out... i really didnt want to go with a theme because i would have to match everything together and remember im trying to keep it inexpensive... any ideas on what to go with the horse and carriage decorations... ?

my colors are Pink, Red, and white. its not a big wedding.... but very nice.. we have a horse and carriage built and its white its for when we march down the aisle and take our pics standing on... cant really explain it.. but it will be pretty.. someone gave me the ideas to make it look dreamy, luminous, and romantic with white lights and candles... do anyone else have any ideas...?

it will be greatly appreciated...

dont hestitate to give your input...

What are some good wedding decoration ideas that will stand out?
If your venue allows open flames, have candles, candles, candles - different heights, colors, square pillars, round pillars, tealights, floating, tapers in crystal candle holders etc.... to add sparkle, you can place them on mirrors of various shapes %26amp; sizes - the light reflects and it is gourgeous!

You can accent the tables with fresh or silk rose petals. If using fresh, the best thing to do is keep them on the roses until shortly before the reception - break off the blooms of the roses and sprinkle them on about an hour before the reception (you will probably need to ask a friend to do this,) That will keep the petals looking fresh all evening.

If you are not able to have open flames you can go with battery candles. If you don't care for the way the battery operated candles work, here's a trick. ...

Buy mid-quality pillar candles of various heights, colors, etc.. - you don't want to go with low end because they won't burn nicely and you don't want to go with high end because they will take forever to burn for this project - Since you have a year, you have plenty of time to prepare for this - burn the pillar candles long enough for the centers to drop down 1.5 to 3 inches - take battery operated tealights and place them down inside - you will have the look of a lit pillar candle without an open flame and you won't be able to see the battery operated candle. You can experiment - it is lovely.

White lights wrapped in tulle is lovely to. You can use it to wrap columns, to accent tables such as the gift table, place card table, entrances etc...

A very nice touch is to make sure you carry over your decorations into the restrooms - in this case, candles and petals. It's something that really gets noticed. You can also place courtesy baskets in the restrooms - nail files, tissues, hair spray, lotion, mints etc.... The guests LOVE it!

Best wishes!!
Reply:I seen this at a friends wedding.

Take Styrofoam hearts, wrap battery operated lites around that, then add some batting or tulle around the lites and the heart shaped Styrofoam, attach that to a small base.Inside the heart they spray painted toy miniatures of carriages in silver. It was different , and I thought very pretty.

They had about 75 guests.

Good luck to you , I'm sure what ever you think up, your day will be perfect! Congratulations
Reply:I did this for an event.... get the LED lights that you can drop down into a vase... They light up - are unique - and look cool! We had tall vases, dropped the light and had calla lilies in the vases. Very Classy.

Also, for a large wedding shower I bought cylinder shaped vases (pretty large). I put colored marbles, glass beads at the bottom and filled 3/4 with water and floated rose petals on top.

I very unique idea... large round or cylinder vases - purchase feeder goldifsh - colorful orange/dark yellow/reddish orange - and use them for centerpieces. Surely they will draw attention and be the most unique centerpiece your guests have ever seen!

How much is a good per hour rate to charge for Wedding Photography?

I was just wondering what I should charge a friend of mines sister to photograph her wedding. I have gone to school for photography and have worked at sports photo places and the most I have made there was 14. Now I think I should charge somewhere around there but honestly I really don't know and I was wondering if you guys might be able to help me out. I have looked online and I only can really get an average yearly salary for wedding photographers.

How much is a good per hour rate to charge for Wedding Photography?
Wedding photographers charge by the event, not the hour.

My wedding photographer had shot professionally for ten years, but mine was only her fourth wedding. Her experience as a pro combined with her inexperience at weddings led to a price of $750 for the day.

This included:

* Four scheduled hours of work (though she showed up early and also toured the venue with me the day before, so it's more like six hours total).

* Light editing of all pictures (color, contrast, removing any photos that had come out badly) and burning them to CD. This CD also came with copyright release, so I could print the photos legally. Most photographers charge maybe $250 for the copyright-released CD alone.

* No prints

You seem less experienced than my photographer was, so if I were you, I'd charge $500 for the above.

The high yearly saleries and $2000/gig prices are reserved for professional photographers who have lots of experience with weddings. If your sister's friend is going to you, it's because she can't afford them.
Reply:Stop with the "friend's sister" approach as the first determiner of price.

As a friend, she should be recommending you, not because of the deal she is getting for her sister, but for the quality you will be giving her sister.

It makes no difference who the pictures are for, if you do a good job you will be promoted as a good photographer and the price you charged will be passed around to everyone who sees the pictures as well...in short you will not be getting more for your work than you charge this time. See what other professional photographers in your area charge and demand the same rate..if you want to offer a "gift" of additional pictures or additional time for you friend's sister, o.k., but establish yourself as a professional and respect others who have chosen the profession at the same time. Remember, everyone has a "friend's sister."
Reply:You do not charge by the hour.

This is very important! Every project is different and you do not need to keep track of the hours.

All good photographer get paid by the job.

So the first thing you need to figure how much this will cost. Factor any extra equipment. Next thing find out how much a photographer in your area charges. Now obviously you are just starting so you will not get that rate. But I think you will find that most are in the 2000 dollar range. My friend is very good and she charges 6000 dollars for the day plus the expenses.

So even though you are starting out I can't see why you would charge less than 500 dollars for the day.

Personally I would ask for 750 per day. I know this sounds like a lot for starting but believe me. If you pictures are good then they will be getting a very very good deal.
Reply:What you have to figure in is not only your time actually shooting, but travel and time spent on the computer after wards. Factor in the use of your equipment, because each job takes a toll. Since this is a friend's sister, you will probably want to "low ball" it, but I would suggest you first figure out what the end costs will be (ie: prints, books, etc) and build from there.

$14 is waaaaay low...
Reply:My daughter is in the process of hiring a wedding photographer and she charges $150.00 per hour. This includes an album of photos and negatives.
Reply:I suggest a more pragmatic method...

All markets are different and so are the strata (levels) within the market. The best way to work this out is to research your local market so you can compare quality, number of images, service levels and package make-up... then set your prices according to what feels comfortable for you - you're the one who needs to justify them!

Time spent in reconnaissance is never wasted... ;)
Reply:When you say you've gone to school for photography, does that mean in high school or an actual photography school?

If it's high school then don't charge a thing. Use it as a learning experience. In fact, I suggest you don't even take the job at all. A wedding is a big event! It's something you want to remember for the rest of your life... don't risk messing it up.

If you are still a student at a photography school, and you've been there for atleast a year, then charge $25-$50 per hour.
Reply:None of the wedding photographers I know charge by the hour, rather they charge from $2,000 and up to shoot the wedding and reception (about 4 hours) and provide a CD containing "proofs". All prints are billed separately
Reply:Depends how experienced you are. $25 an hour including driving time would be a good starting place.

For a wedding, is it important to have hor d'ouevres during the cocktail hour, btw the ceremony and reception?

I'm planning a wedding for August. The ceremony is at 4:30, cocktail hour at 5 and reception at 6. We're debating whether guests really care about hors d'ouevres and if so whether the kind of hors d'ouevres matters.

For a wedding, is it important to have hor d'ouevres during the cocktail hour, btw the ceremony and reception?
I would. Your dinner won't actually be served at six, it will be closer to 6:30 or 7. I've been to several weddings in the last few years, and just because the reception starts at 6, doesn't mean that is when dinner will be served.

Also-your reception hall isn't including hor d'ouevres? I just started planning a wedding for next fall, and every reception hall I have checked out, has them included. Anyhow, congratulations!
Reply:you have what you prefer not what is right or wrong. if this makes you comfortable do it. this article has some great tips on weddings the dos and donts and much more. hope it helps
Reply:I'd have a few hor d'ouevres for guests during the cocktail hour. People always appreciate a few little munchies. Your caterer should be able to tell you about how many per person, and I would think it would also depend on if you're having waiters/waitresses serve them from trays, or you're just putting them out on a table.
Reply:I was debating the same situation...I was thinking no hor d'ouvres to save some money. When I told my mom she said "NO" we have to have hor d'ouvres...especially while we are doing pictures, you want to give your guests something to do. Even more so if you are having your ceremony and reception at the same location. What we are doing in after the outdoor ceremony we are opening the bar in the club house with hor d'ouvres (no one is allowed in the reception room until we are done with pictures) This way our guest can mingle in the club house have some drinks and nibble a bit. Another thing we are doing during the time is making sure everyone signs our guest book...It doesn't have to be extravagant hor'douvres just give them something to do :)
Reply:If your pics are going to take 30 minutes or more yes
Reply:You should definitely have appetizers. Even just cheese and crackers, veggies and dip, or just fruit. We had all three of those and also cocktail shrimp and fish dip with crackers. Usually, when the bride and groom show up to the reception, they do dances and a toast before dinner is served, so the guests would be pretty hungry by then. But, you don't have to go all out on appetizers, just simple stuff to hold them over. And it will keep guests from getting too drunk because you're filling them up with food, too. An empty stomach will get you drunker quicker.
Reply:Yes, it's important. I went to a wedding where it was a no-host bar and one small tray of appetizers for over 100 guests. The photos took like an hour to be completed and everyone was grumpy from the lack of alcohol and food. I'd rather serve appetizers galore and have smaller dinner plates (maybe skip the terrible salad portion) and have people happy rather than hungry and grumpy.
Reply:15 years in the wedding industry and only about 40% of cocktails hours have hor d'oueveres for the guests. It's just nice to have a place they can go while you have pictures done. Have open bar for that time and music and that's all you need.
Reply:Weddings I have gone to have had that too. Everyone has made comments like why do they have this? So honestly I think its dumb. It kinda fills people up before the dinner... which is what you pay all your money for! If you had my opinion, I would just skip that.
Reply:Its not really important. I got married at 3 p.m., and had our reception at 6:30 p.m. We did not do an hor d'ouevres hours because we knew we had a lot of food coming at the reception.

Since you ceremony is close to the reception hour, you may want to skip that added cost.
Reply:Yes, it doesn't have to be much, but a little something with the drinks is nice. Especially since most things don't happen on time. People will be getting really hungry at that time.
Reply:I think people expect some kind of nibbles, but I don't think they have to be fancy.

I would be surprised to find chips in a bowl, I think that is a little too ordinary, but anything above that should be fine.

You could just do: veggie and dip tray, cheese and cracker, spinach dip and bread. Plus drinks.

Pretty inexpensive but not something people eat everyday.

Some gourmet grocery stores even have slightly nicer trays like brucheta. and olive trays.
Reply:It's definitely nice to have something to eat and go with the drinks. All of the wedding's I've been to have appetizers during the cocktail hour.
Reply:Yes-- do NOT serve alcohol without some food.

However, it can be simple, like cheese and crackers.
Reply:to me i would not expect that since you will be eating at 6 and if you don't have to spend that money on hor d'ouevres then that is more money to spend on wedding plans you could also just have mints peanuts and chocolates at the tables for guest to snack on that way you don't have to spend a lot on food

What is considered formal wear for a wedding?

I have a wedding I am going to in August and the wedding is at 6pm. My husband and I have never been ones to dress up. We are more of the rocker/punk/goth style: jeans, t-shirt or baby tee, ol' school chucks and maybe a hat with dark make-up for me. Oh yeah, and not to forget the tattoos and piercings....

What is considered formal for going to a wedding and then to a reception at a really nice resturant? I am in dire need for help b/c I am not the type to spend a lot of money on dress clothes when I know I will probably never wear them again?

Also, is is ok for a female to wear pants if it is formal or does it need to be a dress?

Please help!

Thanks in advance!

What is considered formal wear for a wedding?
Formal for a women is a formal dress. Try second hand stores as sometimes they have some very nice women's clothing for affordable prices.

As you can see from my photo, formal for a man is a formal suit and tie.
Reply:Formal means dresses or skirts. Usually its best to go with plain colors. A fall wedding color sch me is earthy... so you could wear browns, golds, burnt orange, green or purple. Kitten or high heels. Simple accessories(shoes, pocket book, belt, jewelry) golds or browns. Light makeup and colored/clear lip gloss.
Reply:Anything but jeans and a tshirt/sneakers is fine. You don't have to go spend a lot of money on some ugly frilly dress when you can put on a nice top and maybe black dress pants....which answers your question yes you can wear pants but make sure theyre a little dressy.....

here are tips for what to/what not to wear to a wedding:

I know you guys arent the dressy type, but hey it's one day.
Reply:Formal wear for a man is a tux or a dark business suit with a tie and white shirt. For a woman, it is a cocktail dress or a gown. You can probably rent formal wear for both of you. If you can't dress appropriately, don't go.
Reply:for you, i nice pair of black dress pants would keep you from having to actually wear a dress. find a dressy black top to match, and youll have a dressy outfit that you'll still feel fairly comfortable in.
Reply:the easiest way to dress up formally would be a simple and elegant dress. little black dress would be the safest. if you do not want to wear a dress you could wear pants made up of nice cloth like satin. walk around the mall, check out shops selling formal wear and i'm sure you could find soemthign there.

no goth make-up, no piercings. keep it simple.
Reply:Church atire would be good, or a very dressy shirt, a formal skirt, a pair of high heel shoes, and if you really want to go out of your way put your hair up in a fancy way.
Reply:here's a link to some ideas on ebay
Reply:Your best bet it to get a pair of dress pants and a button down from express. And since there is an express men too, you guys can both find something to suit you. Im not much for dressed either but I found some great dress pants, also the button downs at New york and Co, fit really great and aren't that expensive.

I face the same problems as you, im not the rocker/punk style but I do have tons of uncalled for piercings, guages ears, and tattooes, so I know what its like. Goodluck!
Reply:Usually a dress.I am the same way I always wear jeans and a T shirt.

When should I plant sunflowers for a September wedding?

Please can anyone help, we need sunflowers to use as a cut flower at a wedding in September. When is the best time to sow them? We live in Cornwall in the UK,many thanks for your help.

When should I plant sunflowers for a September wedding?
Now!!! And don't plant one of those single-flowered giant headed varieties. Go for a variety that has several smaller flowers per plant. They look much nicer and are easier to grow.
Reply:now...go with diff varieties....if you plant large head ones...they will need to be supported and protected from birds that want the seeds

What should a honorary bridesmaid wear for the wedding ceremony?

I want to know if she has to wear a dress similar to the bride or to the order bridesmaids. What roles does she play at the wedding?

What should a honorary bridesmaid wear for the wedding ceremony?
I feel the role %26amp; duties of an honorary bridesmaid would be completely up to the bride. Since it's not a "traditional" role, she could have as many or as few duties as you'd like to give her. It would likely make her feel more part of the group if she had a color or style of dress that's similar to the other bridesmaids. And if the maid-of-honor has too many things to do, showers, etc., she could have the honorary bridesmaid assist her if that suits everyone

I suggest checking http://theknot.com/ - they have wonderful information about all things wedding related! You might find a tip or suggestion there that answers all of your questions.

Good luck!
Reply:Thank you for the points. I know quite a few women who have found theknot.com an invaluable resource. I wish it had been around when I got married! Report It

Reply:she wears one simiular to the other bridesmaid. but its slightly differernt
Reply:If she is the maid of honor, you can have her wear a dress that is similar in design to the others or she can have something altogether different-it's your day, your choice. She is the one that stands up at the alter or in front of the JOP (justice of the peace) with you. Additionally, If there is a shower or reception prior to your wedding she should be the hostess.
Reply:Never wear anything similar to the bride. You should wear the same color as the bridesmaid dresses in a different style if there dresses are long then you wear short (not hoochie short). as far as the roles...I would say that you be there to assist the bride in any way whether it be helping her to get dress or making sure the bridesmaids have everything.
Reply:yes i have some tips for you on that one
Reply:I would wear a dress in the same color, but a little less formal (if they're wearing satin, you could wear a shorter chiffon dress, for example). That way you look like a part, without looking like you're trying to butt in on being a bridesmaid.

How do I remove an auto grease stain from my satin wedding gown?

I have a long black grease mark on my wedding gown from getting in and out of a van. I want to try to remove myself before the wedding. Any suggestions?

How do I remove an auto grease stain from my satin wedding gown?
* Sorry No; it's safer to have it professionally cleaned. The process is too hard to perform at home %26amp; dry cleaning is involved.

Good luck!

How much should I charge per picture for wedding photos?

I'm going to be the photographer in a wedding coming up, and need ideas on how much to charge for each picture. I have not decided whether or not to use film or digital [will probably end up doing digital]. So I'm not really sure as to how much to charge people for the pictures.

I know that if I end up doing digital, I will need to gain back the amount it will cost me to borrow/rent a nice digital camera, along with the cost of the prints, however at the moment, I have not looked into it.

So I'm wondering what the price ranges should be. I'm thinking of offering 8X10's - wallet sizes and then going anywhere from maybe $15-$80 depending on sizes, and how much they're going to cost. Does that seem like a reasonable price range or should I make it more/less? I am not charging the bride and groom [the bride is my best friend] so it's not even a flat fee and you get x amount of pictures...

Thanks in advance.

How much should I charge per picture for wedding photos?
First of all, shoot more than needed so you can edit out what does not measure up. Charge high for the brides portrait that you shoot in advance of the wedding. Afterwards, put together package deals and set a flat price for reprints.

Wedding photographers fees and pricing varies in different areas of the country.

Read up on wedding photography, this is a one time shoot, talk to other photographers. Make sure you want to do this in digital, shooting in film is still the standard in wedding photography.
Reply:Usually, you would charge your client a flat rate (or an hourly rate ) to shoot the wedding. THEN let them choose the images - you would setup a place to show them the proofs....Maybe charge like 50-100/CD-ROM full of high res images. IF your doing a print book, I would include your post production time on the images into the rate and have it be an all inclusive thing....let them pay for your time (hourly)....there are a few different ways to do it, but I don't suggest you charge per image. Per CD (figure out how many images will fit on a CD - or DVD) if your going to go by image.
Reply:Have you shot weddings before? A lot? Successfully?

If the answer is no, then I wouldn't plan on charging anything. Use the camera you're familiar with, or get your rental ahead of time so you will be comfortable using it. Don't forget you'll need memory cards, flash, extra batteries, etc etc.

Then can you do the post processing? Images straight out of the camera are seldom ready to use. Do you have a RAW work flow?

Maybe you have loads of experience, if so, just disregard this. If this is all new to you, maybe you have something to consider before deciding on a price. Personally, I would correct the images and burn CD's, then make a few proof prints from the best, and offer them to the bride as my gift. Along with a recommendation of where to have them printed. Or you could host them on-line at SmugMug or some such place, and let them order the prints they want.

Whichever way you go, best wishes to you.

EDIT:

Ok, it sounds like you have it under control :-) In that case, I think I would determine what the otherlocal wedding pros are charging, and go into that ballpark. You still might want to check on image hosting, though. It takes most of the work and pressure off of you to deliver print orders.
Reply:This is going to be the biggest day in your friends life. You are taking the picture, yet you don't have a camera? I know your heart is in the right place, but I am afraid that you might be getting in over your head. If it comes out poorly, you will never hear the end of it.

Anyway, use film. If you have to borrow someone elses digital camera, what happends if you accidently erase the photos? That isn't that hard to do with a camera you don't know. You won't get a scond chance. At least with fim, you can't destroy it.

Also, the negatives, if kept in a cool dry place, will last a lifetime. If a cd get scratched, it's done for.

As for what to charge, I would just double the costs.

Good luck

Reply:If this is the first wedding you're to shoot, PLEASE work with a professional wedding photographer through at least one of their weddings. Wedding photography isn't like any other type. It's an intimate, once in a life time event and you're not going to have 'do-overs' on most of the photos you take. If you blow it, you're going to lose those friends real fast.

Find a list of the most traditional shots, in order of occurrence, and keep it with you throughout the event.

DON'T shoot like you're a spectator! You'll know from your list when you need to get closer to the action to get those intimate shots. Afterwards, step out of the way so as not to be a distraction.

Personally, I've always used film so that I have a permanent record of the event. Digital storage devices can go out and a photographer won't know it until he gets them on his computer. By that time, it's way too late and you've lost 100 shots or more. When the film is processed at a pro lab, have the shots put on CD for post production cropping, tweaking, etc.

Shoot kids and elderly folks as early as possible. Both tend to get cranky real quick if they're tired.

Start shooting at least an hour before the start of the ceremony beginning with the above kids and elderly, Groom's side, Groomsmen etc.

As for charge. Since this is your first wedding, I'd advise checking out what other local wedding photographers charge but since the people you're shooting the wedding for are your friends, a price break might be hugely in order because of that and your experience level.

There's a lot more but you get the idea. There's a lot more to wedding photography than people think so I hope you'll be ready when the time comes. Good Luck.

What is the cost to have a womens' wedding ring set, reset in platinum?

I am getting a beautiful cocktail ring in diamond and platinum and wish to wear it often. I would like my engagement/wedding band reset in platinum to match when needed and would like to know a round approximation before I get my first estimate. Anyone have any ideas?

What is the cost to have a womens' wedding ring set, reset in platinum?
Depends on the size of the ring and where you get it done. You should probably go to a jewelry store and ask them how much it would cost. =)
Reply:Check out some stores online. The cost of a new platinum ring will outweigh the cost to reset it, reseting will most likely be free with the new settings.

What percentage of your wedding expenses would you allow for your wedding album and photographer fees?

What is your age? Gender? Would you fall in low, middle or high income catagory? Do you think Americans spend more than other nationalities? Do you think east coast, midwest or west coast spends more? Why do you think some people greatly value a fine art album and others are happy with snap shots? Basically, why do some people cross over into desiring a love story book of their wedding day and others just want to be married?

What percentage of your wedding expenses would you allow for your wedding album and photographer fees?
Not sure of % or what the typical american spend is, I am a UK based wedding photographer and belong to a nuimber of international forums.

The US photographers seem to play a major role in weddings in the US, It seems most produce Love story books which take a lot of effort to produce and so naturally command a high price.

Australian Photographers and Albums are the "IN" fashion at the moment many international %26amp; US photograpers are offering larger Australian Albums - US %26amp; Australia seem to be leading the world at present.

The UK market is a bit smaller and brides as whole devote less money to photography, prices start from under $800 but go up to $6000

Reply:I would worry more about the quality of the photographer first. Then ask about the cost of the prints - they charge much less for taking the pictures than they charge for the prints. Ask about the prints and decide on which pictures to get after the wedding.

And I wish you a very blessed marriage - go forth and multiply. Lord knows how I yearn for children born in wedlock.

Can someone help me find ribbon for my wedding cake?

I am looking for Dark Brown Ribbon about 1 1/2" thick with rhinestone edging. I want it on my wedding cake and I can't find it anywhere! If someone knows where I can find this please help me!

Can someone help me find ribbon for my wedding cake?
You may have to find the ribbon you want, then attach a rhinestone chain by hand stitching. If you aren't wanting a great length of it, this may work. I wasn't able to find anything online other than white and silver. I bet you and your girlfriends could whip-stitch the rhinestones on fairly quickly. You can get the rhinestone chains at most fabric or craft stores. Good luck.
Reply:I like both answers
Reply:Check with your local florist. They may not have it in stock, but I bet they could get it for you. They have contact with all the major ribbon suppliers. Buy a little bouquet while you are there. They will be more willing to help a customer.
Reply:not knowing where you are going to put this, but if it for the cake is it possible that the decorator could mimic this in icing, or some other medium that is edible? just a thought
Reply:Maybe a craft supply store, or a sewing store might be able to help you.

What is the best camera for professional wedding pictures?

I am interested in doing some wedding photos, but would like some opinions on what cameras work best for this type of photography.

What is the best camera for professional wedding pictures?
Before you jump into attempting to become professional by buying a "professional" camera, work as an assistant for a professional wedding photographer for a year or two ... by then you not only know which camera you need, but what shots are expected, how to make perfect exposures and how the business end of wedding photography works.

Most my wedding photog buds use Nikon D300/D3 or Canon 5D/1Ds Mark III bodies with two or three different lenses and a good dedicated flash unit.
Reply:one that is used by a professional
Reply:I would suggest 2 bodies, a Nikon D3 and a Nikon D300, or A Canon 5D and a 40D. A 70-200mm f2.8 IS/VR, and a 17-55mm f2.8. If I were starting out, I'd go with a Nikon D3 and a 70-200mm, though.
Reply:Hasselblad H3D39 MkII. And don't listen to anyone who says that experience is necessary either. Photographing weddings are a pleasant way to spend a Saturday, and you can even sleep in before the big day. Just make sure that you turn up at least ten minutes before the wedding just to be sure, and then once the bride arrives, it is simply a matter of taking as many photographs as possible. If you take 1000 photos, you are almost certainly going to get ten odd shots that the bride and groom will be pleased with. Backups, well in todays world with technology at an all time high, they are just a waist of time. What could go wrong?

All the best.

Can wedding expenses be used as a tax write off?

I keep reading and hearing about you can save receipts for tax purposes and wonder if a wedding can be done also?

Can wedding expenses be used as a tax write off?
No
Reply:No, weddings aren't tax deductible.
Reply:I don't see how it could but I wish it was that easy to write things off!
Reply:No. There are no legitimate tax writeoffs for a personal ceremony of this nature.
Reply:Yes, if you can incorporate a business / wedding into one event with proof and an understanding that you are more likely than the average tax payer to be audited.

Perhaps the reception / business party could work.

I need a recipe for a tradition wedding cake?

Does anyone have the old recipe for a wedding cake that has dried raisins, wine or brandy(beer) and its brown in color. It lasts for over a year even without being refrigerated. They hardly serve them in morden day weddings.

1 tsp. vanilla

Add remaining 1 cup flour to fruit and mix until fruit is dusted, then fold into cake batter together with pecans, stir in brandy. Grease pans and line with brown paper, use 1 (10) inch pan and 3 (5 x 9 inch) loaf pans.

Bake at 275 degrees for 2 1/4 to 2 1/2 hours. Put pans of water under cakes in oven. When done, remove cakes from pan and cool on racks. Wrap cooled cakes first in brandy soaked cloths, then in plastic wrap and finally in foil.

Store in cool area and cure for at least 3 weeks before serving.

How do I preserve flowers from my wedding?

The wedding was June 17. They have been hanging upside down since then and are dried out. Do I spray them with hairspray to keep them from falling apart? I would just like to keep them as nice as possible. I realize this is not a professional job. Any help to keep them looking the way they are and not fall apart would be appreciated.

How do I preserve flowers from my wedding?
You can go to a professional who will dip the flowers in this liquid that will crystalize them and they will stay that way forever with a glossy touch!
Reply:You should have sprayed them with hair spray while they were drying, but you can try spraying them now to see if they'll hold together. Aquanet is a particurlarly good hair spray for preserving flowers.
Reply:Congratulations

I think this web site will help

PS. I have been happily married for 2 years, its my 25 th wedding aniversary tomrrow!!
Reply:Yes spray your flowers with hair spray and they will stay forever as I have two bundles from my sons wedding from 5 yr ago and still looking good. After they died out is when I sprayed them then hung upside down.

What wedding dress colour do you wear when you are not a virgin?

or if i dont find a dress i like i'll just go with white it's every girls dream to have a white wedding dress.

What wedding dress colour do you wear when you are not a virgin?
um Honestly... wear whatever you want...people dont do the color thing anymore...if they did there would be hardly any white wedding dresses in the world..so have that white wedding :)
Reply:wear a white wedding dress with maroon or light pink or light green trim. or have a lace over skirt made in a light pastel color im in the same trail to find a wedding dress good luck
Reply:is it still matters about the colour code thing? it think wearing white will make u stand out from the others.. so wear white!
Reply:popped cherry red of course
Reply:BLACK!!!!

or if that ain't your thing

blood red looks hot

or nothing that would look even better

and make it the best day of your life!!!!
Reply:I second the first guy, wear whatever you want whether you are a virgin or not. It's your day and your show!
Reply:If you want the dream of the white wedding and dress and not sure of white because of not being a virgin i would wear eggshell
Reply:red. just for the hell of it...or if you are asian.
Reply:wear white. it's not taboo to wear white if you aren't a virgin anymore. if you don't feel right wearing white, wear an ivory or any color for that matter. But white is perfectly acceptable!!!
Reply:anything really depends what kind of wedding ur having, when i got married i was under age then at 18...i wore a very light creamy white short dress my mother wanted me in a white wedding dress but my mother-inlaw didn't want to ..so anyhow 1 year later my in-laws wanted a big wedding for us so she got me a white long dress
Reply:Hi!

I think that you should wear white if you want to. But if you really want to wear another color you can wear off-white, light beige, or egg shell. Or you can wear a white dress with a beige trim
Reply:i dont think having a white dress has anything to do with being a virgin anymore lol. if its your 1st marriage then get a white one.
Reply:Ivory, it still does the trick!
Reply:Off white...sorry I'm old fashion.
Reply:I'm just a guy and, as such, probably shouldn't have an opinion but I do.

It is YOUR wedding, YOU do and wear whatever YOU want.

Congratulations and best wishes...

BTW, my wife and I have been married for 35 years, do you think it might last???
Reply:any color u like
Reply:A white wedding dress does NOT mean you are a virgin. It signifies a FIRST marriage, and because in olden days women were virgins when they got married, white became associated with virginity. WRONG! Wear white if it's your first wedding and be proud of it.
Reply:you can wear whatever you want!! If you want to wear white, wear white!! It's not like everyone in your family knows you aren't a virgin, or do they?
Reply:Wear whatever color you want. Remember, white can make a light or fair skinned person look washed out. I'm blonde %26amp; blue with fair skin so I'd choose a cream, champagne, off white, pale pink or pale blue color. I've never even considered a white dress due to my fair coloring. If your darker skinned, white will be fine.

You'll find a dress. Check bridal stores, magazines, online stores %26amp; ask your friends who've married in the last year or two. They may know some place you haven't looked yet.

A friend of mine found a pale coral dress that was on the discount rack at a major bridal shop (of course I've forgotten the name). It was a design that didn't sell well %26amp; was marked way down. David's Bridal always has good prices %26amp; the dresses are gorgeous.
Reply:you can pick any wedding dress you like to wear and jst pick out somethng that everybody willl like like maybe takew ur mom or grandma or a your best freinds and just tel them what they think of the dress youre going wear in your wedding day? doesnt matter what kind and styles or colors . just wear the unfit that your think will be comftable for you not anybody just your looks.
Reply:Whatever color makes YOU the most happy--its your wedding not the 10,000 critics weddings --Personally I think brides look beautiful in white, but myself I like black (i'm not into goth, but to me black dresses always look very elegant)

Weddings I've been at recently say that the white dresses represent the purity of your love for each other instead of representing your sexual purity (I guess trying to keep up with the times)
Reply:If it's your 1st wedding, white or nearly white is expected. If it's your 2nd, 3rd, etc. it's weird to wear white or a big poufy dress at all.
Reply:There is no reason wahtsoever not to wear white to your second or even third wedding.
Reply:Well try to confuse them and make you think your still a virgin! Do white, its classic.
Reply:Any color you want !
Reply:whatever colour you want. BUT before deciding on white try some white gowns on to see how the colour looks on you.

there are many different shades of white just as there are shades in other clolours.

I have made wedding dresses in a variety of colours;

1 of the nicest being a very pale pink one for a lady who had a rather pale complexion %26amp; the pink looked magnificent on her- she glowed.

choose whatever colour makes you look the best - regardless of whether it is white;ivory;red or any colour of the rainbow- it IS YOUR DAY to shine-

good luck %26amp; enjoy your day
Reply:Go with white if thats what you want. You don't have to wear an off white dress and let the whole congregation know your business.
Reply:you can wear any colour you like after all it is your day and its all about you so go with your feelings but if you want to go with tradition go white.
Reply:most non virgins wear ivory, or very pale grey or blue, but do what suits you, no one has to go by that old virgin law anymore, and if richard ever decides to marry me, i think ill go with rainbow tie dye. ok im and old hippy

What should be worn to a summer wedding that is relatively formal?

I'm going with my boyfriend to his sisters wedding and on the invitation it says relatively formal.

What should be worn to a summer wedding that is relatively formal?
Please do not wear a sun dress! Get a cocktail dress or gown. They have tons of summer styles including off the shoulder, spaghetti straps, halter, etc.
Reply:wear a sun dress and a cute pair of flip flops and be sure it matches the wedding ceramony
Reply:a cute sun dress would be nice, that's what i'm planning on wearing to a wedding this summer that i'm going to
Reply:Well it all depends on what time of the day it is in.

lets say that since it is relatively formal that the wedding is taking place in the evening say 6 ish. you want to wear a darker color, brown, navy black. or a dressy dress in a more fun color such as red or pink or yellow etc. no matter what season or time of day never ever wear WHITE to a wedding biggest faux pas ever.

If its a wedding during the day/afternoon you can get away with a very nice sundress

go cocktail length no matter what. and wear heels, no flip flops or flats
Reply:i would recommend this dress:

with these heels:

hope i helped!
Reply:A nice short sleeve or sleevless dress, spagetti straps would be ok, not too sexy but dressy enough for a formal evening out . Knee length or a little longer or a summer pant suit that is dressy with a top dressy enough to take off the jacket if it's hot.

Wedding?!?!?

I am having a wedding and i don't know where to have it. Any ideas?

Wedding?!?!?
How about this...ask the one you're marrying, and the two of you work out together where you'd like to share this all important day together!

If you're stuck for ideas of where to get married, maybe you ought to rethink the whole idea....because there are only more difficult decisions yet to come
Reply:If you don't want to have it at a church, you could have it at a location that means a lot to you and your fiance, or you could even save money by having both the ceremony and reception at the same location, just in different spots....A beach or a golf course are nice for outdoor weddings......Park shelters can work really nice, too..
Reply:I take it since you are not contemplating a church that you are not really all that religious. Look for someplace like an old mansion, a flower garden, or someplace pretty. One major way to save money, have the weddign and the reception at the same locale. So, say, pick a vineyard and then hold the reception there.
Reply:At your local church you attend.
Reply:Hi - I work for a company that does destination weddings - if that is what your interested in i would recommend all-inclusive resorts - and if coming from the USA I would say Mexico, lots of great resorts. USVI, Hawaii, Las Vegas....a lot depends on your budget and where you live now.
Reply:well it depens on the time of year ur getting marreid and where u are from as well im getting marreid in ireland im having a church wedding and a sit down meal for guest s and then a band a dj

basically a place that's beauitiful, reminds you how much your loved and wanted and makes you want to sing. Good luck. God bless

Remember, it may cost you more $ to be somewhere like a museum, but your guests will always remember your wedding, and you'll spend less $ for decorations!

Reply:Go to theknot.com and put in your location. They will list reception/ceremony sites and prices in your area.

Wedding...?

Hi, Please could you tell me the average price of a UK wedding ceromony in a church, and in a registry office. Also.. please can you share with me how to keep weddings as low cost as possible.. Thanks :)

Wedding...?
When you get married, you have two costs you have to pay in the UK - you can't escape these:

£30 (each) to give notice at the registry office

£3.50 for the certificate

On top of these, you may have to pay a registrar to 'officially' marry you in a non-CofE church if there isn't an authorised person. This is £47, or if you're getting married in the registry office you'll need to pay £40.

The cost for a wedding ceremonies in a church is defined by each church. Some churches charge and will include flowers and organist in the cost, others won't charge and you'll be expected to give a 'gift' to the celebrant and the organist. Best thing to do would be to speak to your preferred church. Costs could range between £20 - £400!

The Governments Registry Office Site is very good - see sources below.

For keeping your costs down, you should have a look at www.cheap-wedding-success.co.uk. It's very good for tips and ideas on having a low cost wedding.

Wedding.........?

how long does a wedding reception suppose to last?

Wedding.........?
There is not a rule on this, really.

Most last about 2-2.5 hours. It really depends on the things you are doing though. If you are having a seated dinner, formal introductions of you and the party, first dance, parent dances, toasts, cake, etc.that may take longer.
Reply:I'd say about 5-6 hours. That includes cocktail hour.
Reply:There is no supposed to - it's what you plan.

If you are starting with cocktails at, for example, 5:30, dinner at 6:30, your dance could start at 8:30 - til midnight...

Depends on the hours your venue is available, and the hours for your music, as well as the hours for your liquor licence.
Reply:I'd say four to five hours... but have it as long as you want :)
Reply:They run the gamut. At one extreme is wedding breakfast in the morning and dancing, drinking, eating, until after midnight. At the other is the receiving line followed by a toast and a small dessert.

If you keep people for 3 hours or more, you are expected to provide light refreshments like crackers or cake, and some beverages. If you keep them over much over 4 hours they will expect to be fed a real meal, either seated or buffet.
Reply:mine was about 7 hours long. any ive been to its usually started around 5pm, dinner from 6-7, speeches from 7-8 then dancing the rest of the night.
Reply:About 6 hours. You got hors d' oeuvres in the beginning, father/daughter dance, mother/daughter dance, bride/groom first dance, speech from entourages, toast, meals, cake cutting, etc (depending on your tradition).
Reply:however long it takes you to do everything you want to do. no certain time required. my reception lasted 3 hours. depends on how long the building is rented for. how long you feel like dancing. whether you and the groom are tired.some people party all night long.
Reply:As long as you want it too. Depends on what's involved.

If there is dancing, it'll last longer for sure.
Reply:it depends. if you are doing the traditional cocktail hour + dinner + dancing, it usually lasts 5-6 hours.

Wedding!!!!?

hi i was just wondering what people think i should wear to my brother wedding?

:)

Wedding!!!!?
Why arent you in the wedding?
Reply:Tea length dresses are always lovely for wedding guests. They allow the freedom to dance while still maintaining a certain amount of formality.

There are many lovely dresses available. If you're on a budget, I suggest checking out Forever 21.

If you have a little more money, check out Anthropologie.
Reply:not white. you should wear a knee length stain dress something that excentuates your body type. I'd go for a spring colored dress if it's during the spring, usually a pastel. Burgundy looks really good at weddings too.
Reply:What dress suits you best.
Reply:its a wedding so you should wear a dress like a dress that is white (Wedding dress)
Reply:Give us a hint of formality of wedding, time of day, geographic location, etc., etc.,
Reply:Pick something that you can wear again - classy but not too formal - little black dress should do it

How do I get more copies of wedding photos from proofs, when the photographer is dead and studio is closed?

The wedding was 11 years ago, photos were taken with film, received proofs of all photos. I now want to order more than the original package I had bought but the photographer is deceased and his studio closed. No one, as far as I know, has bought his inventory or his studio. I would like to get more pictures printed from the proofs but it wouldn't work when I took the proofs to Walgreens to scan and print. The guy at the photo counter was no help and I don't know what to do now. Thanks for any input.

How do I get more copies of wedding photos from proofs, when the photographer is dead and studio is closed?
I think the two best choices would be to -

1. Take the proofs to a professional photographer that offers copying, restoration and/or retouching services. This will usually get better quality results but is more expensive than..

2. Take it to a camera/photography store that offers copying and restoration services and ask them to make copy negatives and prints from them.

Hope this helps. Good luck
Reply:Just a warning, enlarging a print from a smaller print doesn't always have the best result. The pictures can lose detail.
Reply:Check and see if he has any heirs in the area. If so, they might try and find your negatives.

You might try scanning your prints into your computer at home (if you have a flatbed scanner) and then saving them to a CD or DVD to take to Walgreens.

If you don't have a scanner you can pick up one at Office Depot or Best Buy. I use an HP Scanjet 4850 but there are probably newer models now.
