My 1yr old labrador has eaten my husbands platinum wedding ring yesterday and so far i've made him vomit and he has passed 2 stools but there is still no sign of it. Does anyone know how long this should take to pass or if it is dangerous for him?? Any suggestions on how i can speed up the "passing" process??
Any ideas on getting a dog to pass a wedding ring?
LOL! If you're lucky, he will pass it. You will have to sift through his every load. If he does not pass it within the next 2 days, he will have to be seen by your vet.
Reply:I'd have the vet do an x-ray, they'll be able to tell you if they need to operate to retrieve it, or if there is anything you can do to encourage it to pass.
Reply:I've heard of creative ways to propose but wow, this one certainly takes the cake!
Reply:My dog ate my engagement ring last Monday night, and it's not passed yet. :( I'm going to wait another day and take him in to "see" where he's at on passing it.
I've not found any other advice on this other then to let time it's coarse, however I can't say it's been the best experience digging through dog poo every single day...
Hope you all get your ring back soon!
Reply:Give it another day or so. Transit times varies, but no need to worry until 24 hours have passed. The vomiting won't help and might hurt the dog. Let nature take it's course.
Labs are great dogs. :-)
Reply:It shouldn't be dangerous for the dog.
I would just keep a look out in all of the dogs stools. It's sure to come out soon, how fast it comes out is ultimately going to depend on the dogs speed of the digestion process... everyone's different in terms of that. Just give it a couple more days, i would say it will come out tomorrow
good luck
Reply:Thats a great idea, I would seek a professional trainer for advice though.
Reply:heaps of liver treats he will diarrhea heaps and it will be quicker and softer on his bum
Reply:It will come out in time. If it doesn't than it's vet time cause it's lodged somewhere in the digestive tract. I wouldn't try anything to speed it up. If it's coming than its coming. It does seem funny that it hasn't come through though, their food is digested quite quick and comes out the same.
Not to scare you but I just found this on the internet. Did the ring have any sharp points to it? Here's what I found. I really do think you would notice this though and I'm assuming it's going through the digestive process.
Esophageal foreign bodies are common in dogs. However, in many cases swallowed objects do pass through the esophagus due to its capacity for expansion. Pointy and sharp objects are most likely to get stuck and cause partial or complete obstruction. Some dogs seem particularly prone, usually they are young. In general, prompt removal is advisable, as the longer the object remains the more damage it can do. If possible endoscopic removal is preferred, as esophageal surgery is not well tolerated. After removal the animal is fasted for 24 to 48 hours to let the esophagus recover. Deep damage within the esophageal wall can result in strictures, which can cause partial esophageal blockage. Mechanical dilation with special balloons is the treatment of choice, and surgery carries a poor prognosis. Congenital malformations of the blood vessels to and from the heart can entrap the esophagus and cause obstruction – vascular ring anomaly – these must be corrected surgically.
Reply:Be patient. Platinum should not hurt him. This, too, shall pass. In a day or two. Quit purging him. Good luck!
Reply:Dont use a beagle cause they run away.
Reply:if you feed your dog dry food try giving him wet food the switch will give him the runs and it might pass sooner good luck
Reply:don't force it, it might end up hurting him. wait three days and if no luck call a vet.
Reply:If you don't want to go in, at least call you vet for some advice. He may suggest an ex ray.
Reply:a teaspoon of castor oil or go to the vet for an x-ray. It may be stuck in his gut
Reply:I believe you can use ONE tablet of natural senna. Only ONE as it should be extremely effective. Be prepared for a mess.
Reply:by speeding up things you could kill the dog. let nature take it's course. it will passout eventually
