Where can I find a wedding officiant in NY to marry us on a hiking trail?

My fiance and I are thinking of getting married while hiking because it is a favorite pastime of ours and we do not like the spectacle of a traditional wedding service.

The problem thus far is finding a wedding officiant that enjoys hiking and will perform a ceremony on a trail.

We live in the Hudson Valley of New York.

Please let us know if you know of an officiant, or are an officiant that can accommodate our needs.

Thanks!

Hi,

There is a program in Massachusetts whereby you can apply to the state to allow anyone you chose to (friend, family member, etc.) to officially marry you. My wife and I did this in the (nearby to Hudson Valley, NY) Berkshires at a lodge.

From the web:

Is it possible for a layperson to solemnize a wedding?

Yes, it is possible for a non-minister or non-justice of the peace (such as a relative or family friend) to obtain special permission to perform a marriage from the Governor. Call the Governor's office at (617) 727-5787 to obtain an application for a one-time special appointment to solemnize a marriage. After approval, a $25 fee is paid to the Commissions Division of the Office of the Secretary of the Commonwealth.

It worked out great for us.

Good luck,

S
Reply:I know the sweetest, laid back, travelling minister who does the AT every year. If that would meet your needs I'll put you in touch. When and where were you planning the ceremony?
