What do I wear to a really fancy wedding?

I'm not the most stylish person, and I'm going to a wedding that will be over-the-top and I want to look good - the bride is drop-dead gorgeous so I'm not worried about outdoing her in the least! Any tips for hair, dress, make-up. It'll be on the cooler side, though it's an indoor wedding. I'm curvy.

It depends on your personal taste, but you need to find a formal gown. There are many places to look. Look through all of the evening dresses in these websites. Jessica McClintock has a huge variety.

If you do not feel comfortable in a strapless/bustier style gown there are some very elegant gowns with straps. I do not know how cold it will be, but to be on the safe side a pretty wrap to cover your shoulders helps. A silk Pashmina is nice. http://www.thepashminastore.com/

You should go to a professional hairstylist now to start with a good hair cut. Speak to them about what would be an appropriate updo or style for a very formal wedding. Schedule an appt if necessary. For makeup here is an article on step by step procedures.

I do not entirely agree with everything in that article, but you should look through fashion magazines for makeup looks that appeal to you and what will work for you. I think one easy way to make your eyes stand out is to apply black, liquid eyeliner after regular liner, shadows, and mascara are done.

Have a great time and do not stress about it. Definitely do not shop at the last minute. Good luck!
Reply:Show the curves.Every one at a wedding is looking there best.I know most men enjoy looking at women that aren't afraid to show a little curvey.I love it.

I do think there is a line you can cross also. For instance if your cleavage is open and very large I might be afraid to look at your twins and get busted. So I would not make direct eye contact with you and be very nervous.
Reply:I agree with LoveLove, you will need something formal. I am curvy myself, so you are going to want something that is flatering for your shape. You will want something that will accentuate your chest but minimize your waist line. (**Also, find a great bra. Go to see a professional bra fitter who can fit you with a bra that is perfectly fit for your chest. A properly fitted bra can actually make you look thinner and can go a long way to creating a nice shape for your body.) A long evening gown can do that. Do not get one that has a straight bodice, find one that is tailored--perhaps an empire waist line. You may also want to select a gown that has a jacket, perhaps a shrug. That way you can take it off in the evening if you get warm from dancing. Stay away from halter tops, spagetti straps or strapless.....especially if you are extremely heavy chested. There are a lot of really great cut tops that can be exceptionally flattering for a curvy woman.

If your hair is long, have it swept up with cascading curls, maybe have some jewels placed in your hair. If your hair is shorter, see if your hair dresser can give you a really nice chic cut that will carry you through for a few weeks. Curls with short hair is just not in right now, so a straight cut will work really well. Shoes should be heels with a gown, and should co-ordinate with the colour of your dress. Black works best for most weddings and are multi-functional...you can wear them long after the wedding is over. Select a good shoe, one that will be comfortable. Don't skimp out in the shoe department, you will regret it later.

Pearls are nice to wear at a wedding, so is a simple silver or gold necklace. Don't go too funky unless it suits well with the dress. You want to look elegant but understated. If you have one that was a gift from someone speacial, like a diamond soliatire necklace or a gold cross, you could wear it now.

Now if you choose a sleeveless dress you can opt to wear gloves and a shall, especially if the wedding is on a cool day. Also, find a full length coat to wear. If you don't own one, see if you can borrow one from a relative or a friend. Fur is nice if you don't have issue with furs....or a faux fur one. Full length suede or leather is also nice. There are some really nice soft leather coats that look really fantastic with an evening gown. Don't wear one where it will make you look like you are on your way to Wall street, or one that makes you look like you should be donning chapps and a cowboy hat instead of an evening gown and heels. If you have a friend who has exceptional tase in clothes you may want to seek her out first.

Make up should suit the look. If you are wearing warm colours, your make up should be in warm colours. Cool colours, cool make up shades.etc. Go to a spa or to a high end department store in order to select the right colour ahead of time. Do so only after you have found your dress. Clinique or Estee Lauder are great suggestions, they are a really high quality cosmetic that do not clog your pores and are great for all skin types. Plus the sales professionals are trained in all sorts of dermatology.

Have fun! I agree that you do NOT want to do this last minute.

Also, for the weeks leading up to the wedding, invest in a buffing cream to exfoliate your skin. You will be wearing a dress that will show off your skin and you want to have nice glowing skin. Dead skin has a way of diminishing a healthy skin tone. If you are caucasian and feel you need a little something extra...go to a tanning salon for a few appointments....maybe one or two should do just before the wedding, and spend a few minutes per appnt in a stand up tanning booth. Stand up does the same job in just a few minutes that a tanning bed does in twenty.
