My fiance's best friend is getting married in Arkansas in April. My fiance is one of the groomsmen, which probably means that I may want to spend a little more on what I'm wearing because he'll be in a tux.
So, anyway, I'm looking for ideas. It seems like this spring's trend is black and white, but would that be okay for a wedding? I can't seem to find anything else in the stores. Floral prints are rampant too - are those acceptable?
Also, for more background, the ceremony is in a church in downtown Little Rock on a Saturday afternoon. The reception is in an adjoining hall.
Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
What should I wear to a spring wedding in Arkansas?
Hello. I live in Fayetteville (which is northwestern of Little Rock), but my boyfriend's and best friend's families both live in Little Rock and I accompany them on their family visits often. Some of the weddings there can be very formal and high society. The majority of the U.S.'s population is grossly uninformed of Arkansas' culture and class.
I agree with the person whom comment that you should find out the bridesmaid's dresses and also the bride's colors. You do not want to match the wedding unless you are going to be in the wedding. Also, confirm that it is formal. Wrap or tunic dresses in natural fibers in the $150 to $300 price range would work for just about any figure or spring wedding. Also, they are a great addition to any woman's wardrobe! I absolutely love them and they are very fashionable this spring! However, whatever you wear, do watch how much jewelry you put on. Nothing too large, complicated or tacky. Jewelry is essential to looking like a lady. Oh, and ya'll is most often spoken in a very sophisticated and classicly southern way. Do not snicker if you hear it being used for if you do, you will most certainly be made fun of. However, it's not as prominantly as you would think.
Anyhow, watch out for tacky patterns and florals. Try something more bold than pastel, stay away from lipstick reds, over-used metalics, and long sleeves unless you are cold blooded. April can be very tempermental and you should try to find something short-sleeved, cap-sleeved or sleeve-less and layer a shawl, balero jacket, wrap, or shrug (not the tie shruggs they are so tacky and three seasons ago!) over it.
Hair. Since it's inside you shouldn't really have to worry about wearing it up or down. However, if you have any curl to your hair the southern humidity will bring and frizz it out. So beware!
Last words of advice from an Arkansas native. Don't wear velvet, overly shiny material if you are rounder or vertical stripes if you are slimmer. Watch those hemlines! The shorter the skirt/dress the shorter the heel. Don't show too much cleavage! Don't wear all black. Remember an extra pair of panty hose, a few safety pins and your own hair products. Oh, and remember that this is the brides day and you are just there to celebrate it with her... not steal the show. Oh, but most of all remember to have fun and soak up the warm southern hospitality! It's a wonderful place to visit!!! Have fun and good luck!!!
Reply:Weather in Arkansas during April usually means alot of rain and humidity. i would suggest you wear pastel colors. Something flowing and airy. Also anything that would look good with a cardigan. Black and white is perfectly fitting in this situation as well, just keep in mind whether you thing the event is formal or informal when selecting your attire. Since your finance in wearing a tux and the ceremony is being held in a church that it is a formal occasion.
Reply:well, i would recommend your "big smith" overalls or head to toe camo.... seeing that it's arkansas and all.... oh yeah, make sure you have the skoal can imprint in your back pocket too...
Reply:Since it is an inside wedding, you will not be limited to any style of dress. Since it is an afternoon wedding, the dress need not be "formal" in length. You did say afternoon, so I would recommend a tea length dress, Black and white would be very sharp looking. However, if you want some really good ideas, look at wedding dress sites. and then look at "wedding party" dresses (not any of those frumpy bridesmaid dresses) . You might also look at some of the prom dresses that are being offered this spring. As far at the floral dresses, if that it what you want, go for it. I would suggest pastel or muted color.
Reply:April in Arkansas can be iffy on the weather front. I should know as I live in Little Rock.
Whatever you choose make sure you are comfortable. I would suggest wearing something that you can layer a sweater with - the weather around here is known to be freezing one day (in the low 50s) and warm the next (approaching the 80s).
If you're going to be in downtown either a black %26amp; white number or a floral number would be nice. I'm not big on florals and would personally choose a black/white number. The biggest thing to remember is to get something that you are comfortable in and like.
Reply:Wear a nice dress i been to that place (used to live in LR ) and its pretty formal reciptions there find out what the bridesmaids are wearing you dont want to dress like them. Have fun in LR its a great town, Davids Bridal you can rent a nice dress if you want to go that route
Reply:Overalls, Plaid Flannel shirt, straw hat and a corn cob pipe. You want to fit in don't you?
Reply:Saturday afternoon does not call for formal attire. A pastel floral print dress that is tea length should be very appropriate. I would select a flowing fabric rather than a stiff one.
Reply:tube top dresses are fun and can be dressed up with a cardigan. black and white is definitely ok since your date will be in a tux. there is a store called "White House/Black Market" with some really nice outfits. they will have everything from the dress to the sweater to accessories and shoes for you. have fun at the wedding.
Reply:It depends, are you going to be in the wedding? or just attending? That would be a big factor in deciding what to wear. Either way I would say do not go black and white, it's to cliche. You don't have to do floral prints, but go for light colors.
Reply:Hmmm, a few of these answers are having some fun with you. A few things to consider, if your fiance is in the wedding you'll be getting some attention as his future bride so you're right you do want to look extra good. Also, you'll be in a lot of photos that people will be looking at for years to come, so stay away from styles that might look dated. I might be wrong, but in Arkansas I think girls are into feminine, girlie things.
So here's my vote, first go to a hair salon and get the best cut you can. Get a good manicure. Wear an impeccably tailored pastel dress with a fitted sleeveless bodice and neckline just low enough to show some cleavage, and a full skirt at whatever length looks good on you without being too short, and a little jacket to cover up. Find a clutch bag that matches your dress. Get some sheer nylons and shoes that match the dress with 3" or 4" heels. Find a bra that makes you look sensational.
Reply:a summer dress or some daisey dukes
Reply:if its going to be warm enough you could wear a nice tube dress with a little half jacket and tie up shoes. the color and fit is up to you. have fun
Reply:A Nascar half shirt that exposes your pregnant belly and botched navel ring is always tasteful.
Nahhh, I'm just messin' witcha.
I'm a guy - No idea what you should wear.
Good luck %26amp; have a happy marriage.
