How much would I get for my wedding set?

My husband bought my engagement ring and wedding band in 2005. The value of the set was close to $1000 when gold was around $400 an ounce. The ring is a half carat diamond and 14k gold. I don't care for the ring. It doesn't fit right. My husband bought me another bridal set for our first anniversary which fits great and I treasure it more than my first one. I have asked his permission to sell the ring. We need the money to fix our car. Thanks for any answers.

Usually you will be able to sell secondhand jewellery for half of the valuation price. I have a ring worth $13850 but if I were to sell it I would only aim for $6000 maximum because jewellery is usually over valued and over-priced when bought new, it has an extremely high mark up
Reply:Your best deal would have been trading it in for the new set you just bought. Some jewelers guarantee the price you pay of you trade up with them at a later date. It's obviously too late for that. Markups on jewelery are typically huge. Even with the rise in the price of gold, don't expect to get what you paid for the jewelery selling it outright.
Reply:yup, ithas a high markup. Try advertising in a local classified. Or try ebay. You'll get your best vale from a place like ebay, but you'll most likely only get melt value unless you have a couple bidiots that want it for jewel value. Above all, stay clear of pawn shops.
