Where can I get my mother's wedding dress properly stored?

My mother passed away last year, leaving me a few important mementos, one being her wedding dress. Sap that I am, I'm not up to donating it. But it's been hanging in a closet for about 16 years so I want it cleaned, and properly stored. Anyone know of businesses who do this inexpensively? Thanks in advance!

Inexpensively? Not really. Most good, reliable, professional dry cleaners have access to wedding gown preservation services that will, among other things, vacuum seal the dress in an acid-free box. But that is not cheap (about $150).

Check out: gownpreservation.com or prestigepreservation.com

OR, you can just get it cleaned and pressed, put it into a muslin (NOT plastic) sack and store it folded in a drawer or under your bed in an acid-free box. Don't leave it hanging -- too much stress on straps and shoulders. Check it every year or so for yellowing (due to oxidation) and moth damage.

Hope this helps.
Reply:I understand the grief. Why not take a picture of it and frame it really nicely, maybe with a picture of your Mom? Donate the gown so that another, less fortunate, woman could begin her marriage with the gown that your mother wore on the most special day.
